Today, the #WeLeadComms spotlight falls on Mumbai-based communication leader Vaishali Iyer.
Vaishali has spent 30 years proving that great communications is much more than clever messaging. It’s strategy, science, data, business, psychology and a healthy obsession with asking “why?”
She believes communications is far too important to be treated as a support function. It is a business enabler, a trust builder and often the difference between great ideas and real-world impact.
A pharmacist and MBA by qualification, her career has spanned healthcare, marketing, advertising, communications, advocacy, CSR and business excellence, allowing her to operate at the intersection of business and human connection. Her strength lies in bringing together the discipline of science and the power of storytelling to drive understanding, trust and action.
Vaishali firmly believes that communications deserves its place at the strategy table. Her philosophy is simple: bring communications in at the start of the conversation and watch the plan work harder, faster and better. In her view, counting inputs is easy but demonstrating outcomes and impact is where the real magic lies.
A lifelong learner, Vaishali is endlessly curious about what comes next. Whether it is AI, digital transformation or evolving audience expectations, she believes that what worked yesterday is already on its way to becoming obsolete. Staying relevant requires curiosity, continuous learning, a willingness to unlearn and the courage to challenge one’s own assumptions.
At her core, she is passionate about building leaders, not followers. Her leadership philosophy is anchored in five simple beliefs: create possibilities for people, embrace diversity of thought, measure what matters, harness the power of storytelling to inspire action and remember that strategy creates value only when matched by exceptional execution. After all, leadership is not measured by titles or hierarchy. It is measured by the opportunities we create for others.
