Washington-area communication leader Lindsay J.K. Nichols is today’s #WeLeadComms honoree.
Lindsay is an award-winning strategic communications executive, consultant, and president of Lumina Link Consulting, with 25+ years of experience helping organizations elevate their voices, navigate complex issues, and turn ambitious missions into meaningful impact.
Throughout her career, Lindsay has led communications, marketing, public relations, and advocacy initiatives across the nonprofit, corporate, government, healthcare, and association sectors. From leading large, multidisciplinary teams and multimillion-dollar initiatives to advising executives on reputation management and organizational strategy, she has built her career on a core belief: her work should shape conversations, build trust, and inspire action.
Through Lumina Link Consulting, Lindsay serves as Communications Director for the National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR), where she leads communications strategy and directs the Positively PET campaign. Her work brings together industry leaders, policymakers, technical experts, and communications professionals to advance science-based conversations about sustainability, recycling, and the circular economy. Most recently, she spearheaded communications for PET Forward, a landmark decarbonization roadmap examining opportunities to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions across the US PET packaging value chain.
Previously, Lindsay held senior leadership roles with organizations including America’s Charities, GuideStar (now Candid), Ogilvy PR, Metropolitan Group, MSL Group, LEVICK, and the American Society of Civil Engineers. Her experience spans brand transformation, digital strategy, crisis communications, media relations, executive positioning, and organizational growth.
An enthusiastic advocate for innovation, Lindsay is also exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the communications profession. Washington Women in Public Relations (WWPR) has featured her perspectives on AI, and she has shared her expertise through video and podcast appearances and other professional forums.
Beyond her professional work, Lindsay is deeply committed to community service. She serves as Board Chair of Safe Shores – The DC Children’s Advocacy Center, helping guide an organization dedicated to supporting children and families affected by abuse.
Looking ahead, Lindsay is passionate about mentoring the next generation of communications professionals, championing the strategic value of the profession, and ensuring that emerging technologies enhance, rather than replace, the creativity, empathy, and judgment that make great communicators indispensable.
Lindsay’s personal mission is to make the world a better place, one word at a time.
