Kristen Henning - Portrait

#WeLeadComms: Kristen Henning

Sweden-based Kristen Henning is today’s #WeLeadComms honoree.

Kristen is a global communications leader with nearly 20 years of experience spanning journalism, corporate communications and content strategy.

The “red thread” of Kristen’s career is an unwavering passion for storytelling. She began in editorial, working at Entrepreneur Magazine and Interview Magazine before spending over seven years as an Editor at Fairchild Fashion Media (Condé Nast/Penske Media). There, she honed her newsroom instincts and learned how to capture audience attention. As part of the launch team for a new Footwear News website, she helped scale a platform, drive engagement and optimize SEO.

She carried that storytelling foundation to American Express (Amex), where she spent seven years as a Global Communications Director, evolving internal communications with creative multimedia content for 75,000 colleagues, including leader spotlights, video series and infographics. She also spearheaded digital communications transformation at Amex, leading content, governance and training strategies for the company’s global intranet launch.

She said that a favorite part of her role was acting as a global collaborator and connector. She actively partnered with Amex global teams to co-create and collaborate on communication strategies and execute campaign ideas. These international relationships allowed her to successfully drive a substantial increase in global engagement across channels.

With that global perspective in mind, Kristen moved from New York City to Stockholm, launching her current chapter as a Communications Consultant. For the past two years, working both independently and with Marathon Global Communications, she has helped clients across tech and AI translate complex topics into compelling stories that resonate globally. She is also supporting clients’ generative engine optimization (GEO) strategies to help ensure their stories are amplified in today’s AI-driven informational landscape.

Her passion for writing and storytelling is truly at the center of her own story – from writing entertainment and fashion columns in New York, to delivering global financial communications and corporate strategy at Amex, and now, guiding PR and content strategies for tech and AI companies in the U.S. and Sweden, she loves building narratives that engage audiences and build trust across brands and corporate culture. She believes that an authentic narrative can make any topic fascinating.

In her personal time, Kristen enjoys traveling to new places, finding new Half Marathons to run and exploring new activities in Stockholm, like creative writing groups and cross-country skiing.

If any of these topics interest you too, she’d love to connect.
