Today, the #WeLeadComms spotlight falls on Atlanta-based communication leader Arthur Baker.
In his words:
“I’ve spent most of my career helping people find the right words.
“Turns out, the words were never really the point.
“It’s the people.
“Over 20+ years in communications, I’ve worked for some pretty big names: Mastercard, HSBC, Deutsche Bank, Moody’s. Different industries, with unique needs and business ambitions, but one striking similarity at every stop: smart, hard-working people trying to solve difficult problems.
“People who wanted to do meaningful work, build relationships with those around them, understand how their work connects to something bigger, and know that it all meant something.
“My work was always about them. Motivating them. Inspiring them. Earning their trust. Giving them the confidence to take risks, embrace new ideas, or see themselves in a different light. To believe.
“This has been my life’s work. And it has taken many forms and names: executive visibility, crisis communications, employee engagement, change management. I’ve been a coach, a sounding board, a mentor, and occasionally the person willing to ask the uncomfortable question to help others see the conversation a little more clearly.
“At the heart of it all, I help leaders and organizations navigate change, discover their story, and tell it in ways that build trust and connect with the people who make their businesses possible.
“I enjoy being a communicator. I appreciate the craft. I’m addicted to the strategy. I am a lifelong student of the art, the psychology, and the quest to translate complexity into clarity.
“I’m a total fan.
“I appreciate what communicators make possible. How we can give people context, help them find meaning, and elevate their day-to-day workload to purpose. The best thought-out strategy is just a nice idea until others understand it, buy into it, and commit to moving it forward. Communicators create the connections that cause action.
“My passion for the craft extends beyond corporate life. In my private practice, I coach leaders on communicating with greater confidence and authenticity. As co-host of The M-Dash Report podcast, I explore marketing, communications, and culture with remarkable guests and two equally curious co-hosts.
“Our profession is changing quickly. AI is transforming how we work and reshaping how organizations communicate. I find this new chapter exciting and full of unexplored opportunities to help people make sense of change, strengthen relationships, and build new communities.
“This is what inspires me.”
