#WeLeadComms: Petronilla Ndebele

Canada-based strategic communication leader Petronilla Nets Ndebele is today’s #WeLeadComms honoree.

In her words:

“Strategic communication is about building trust, strengthening relationships, and helping people understand one another. Having worked in both Africa and Canada, I have learned that while countries and workplaces may be different, people everywhere want to feel heard, respected, and included.

“‘Every story has the power to make someone think differently, feel connected, and take action.’

“As Director of Strategic Communications and Stakeholder Relations at Community Living Toronto, I lead communications that strengthen relationships, support organizational priorities, and help people better understand the organization’s mission and impact. More than 20 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations, leaders, and executives has reinforced one belief: the best stories are those that bring people together and lead to positive change.

“Beyond my corporate role, I am the Founder and Principal Consultant of NillaRock Communications Inc., where I partner with organizations to develop strategic communications, strengthen their storytelling, and communicate with purpose. Every engagement is guided by a simple goal: helping organizations build trust, connect with their audiences, and create meaningful impact.

“Giving back to the profession is equally important to me. As a volunteer to mark exams for young professionals pursuing public relations in Canada. Mentoring emerging professionals, sharing knowledge, and helping others grow in confidence and leadership are among the most rewarding parts of my career.

“I am proud to be an award-winning communications professional whose work has been recognized in both Africa and Canada. It has also been a privilege to lead teams whose work has received regional, national, and international recognition. These experiences continue to reinforce that great communication is never the work of one person. It grows through teamwork, trust, and a shared commitment to excellence.

“My academic background includes a Bachelor of Business Administration specializing in Marketing Communications from the Institute of Marketing Management in South Africa and a Master of Arts in International Communications and Development from City University in the United Kingdom. I am also accredited in Public Relations (APR) in Canada.

“The goal that continues to guide my work is simple: to use communication to build understanding, trust, and meaningful connections. The best results come when people work together as one team with a shared purpose.”
