#WeLeadComms: Mika Chauke

Today, the #WeLeadComms sp0tlight falls on South Africa-based communication leader Mika Chauke.

In her words:

“With over 20 years of experience in strategic communications, I have built a career focused on shaping impactful narratives, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and driving meaningful engagement across diverse industries. My professional journey spans banking and finance, oil and gas, FMCG, trade and investment promotion, and the non-profit sector, giving me a multidimensional understanding of corporate reputation management, public affairs, media strategy and integrated communications.

“Throughout my career, I have contributed to the development and execution of high-level communication strategies that align business objectives with audience expectations. In the banking and finance sector, I have led initiatives focused on brand positioning, corporate reputation management, executive profiling and stakeholder engagement within highly regulated environments. My contribution to the industry was recognised through winning the 2024 Mail & Guardian Power of Women Award in Banking and Finance, an honour that reflects both my professional impact and commitment to excellence in communications leadership.

“Within the oil and gas industry, I have managed communications around complex projects, industry partnerships, and sustainability conversations, ensuring transparency and trust among stakeholders. My FMCG experience has strengthened my expertise in consumer-focused campaigns, brand storytelling and audience engagement, while my work in trade and investment has involved promoting economic growth initiatives, facilitating partnerships and positioning organisations as credible industry leaders.

“Equally important has been my work with NPOs, where I have helped amplify social impact initiatives, mobilise communities and build awareness around critical development issues that positively affect communities and future generations.

“I am passionate about using strategic communication as a tool for influence, growth and positive transformation. My ambition is to continue driving innovative communication solutions that connect organisations with their audiences in authentic and measurable ways while mentoring the next generation of communications professionals to lead with creativity, integrity and vision.”
