#WeLeadComms: Marc Moorghen

Today’s #WeLeadComms honoree is US-based Belgian communication leader Marc Moorghen.

In his words:

For more than two decades, I’ve worked at the intersection of communications, philanthropy, and social change. What continues to motivate me is helping organizations build the trust, relationships, and momentum needed to solve problems that matter.

Today, as Vice President of Marketing Communications at Lever for Change, I help shape marketing and communications for a truly innovative nonprofit.

We work with ambitious donors to discover and fund bold solutions through large-scale, transparent open call competitions, while connecting outstanding organizations with the resources they need to grow their impact. Along the way, I’ve helped develop our messaging, thought leadership, brand, and communications strategy to support a broader goal: unlocking billions of dollars for social change. Yes, billions with a “b”.

I’ve always believed that communication is an art and a science. It should create understanding, invite participation, and make institutions more open and accountable. Whether leading communications within an organization, advising people through my own consultancy, or serving nonprofit and philanthropic leaders, I’ve tried to bring curiosity, clarity, and empathy to every challenge.

Outside of my day job, I’m equally passionate about strengthening our profession. Serving on the board of The Communications Network (https://www.comnetwork.org) has given me the opportunity to help build connections among communicators working in philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. We are a vibrant, diverse, and dedicated community of over 3,000 communicators, storytellers, strategists, designers, researchers, producers, and community builders.

These days, trust feels fragile, artificial intelligence is reshaping our work, and audiences expect more authenticity than ever. I believe our greatest responsibility is helping people to navigate complexity with honesty and humility.

Looking ahead, I want to continue pushing communications beyond its traditional boundaries. That means helping philanthropy become more open and equitable, encouraging organizations to listen as much as they speak, mentoring the next generation of communicators, and ensuring that our profession remains grounded in intelligence rather than attention.

The best communications work doesn’t simply change opinions. It creates the conditions for people to work together toward something larger than themselves. That’s the kind of work I intend to keep doing.
