Today’s #WeLeadComms honoree is Texas-based communication leader Lisa Dawson.

Lisa turns complex business stories into strategic messaging that captures the attention of various audiences. She brings strategic clarity and storytelling discipline to every facet of communications, from marketing and brand to PR, internal communications, investor relations, and social media.

Her communications journey started at IBM while she was completing her degree in Communications and Journalism, and then she moved into publishing. She was part of editorial teams at Hearst and Hachette-Fillipachi, then transitioned into PR and media relations for firms like Bozell PR. She worked directly with CEOs to increase companies’ visibility at outlets such as CNBC and with industry analyst firms.

Lisa’s path always contained the common storytelling theme, from product launches and media pitching to internal communications and marketing campaigns. She perfected her storytelling skills as a freelance journalist, writing for local newspapers and magazines. That experience taught her valuable lessons, such as the best corporate communications borrows from journalism’s playbook, which includes real stories, real people, and headlines that grab attention.

After a move to Texas in 2014, Lisa’s marketing and communications focused centered around healthcare and technology. She was the VP of Marketing for a small hospital system and helped launch new healthcare brands. At NTT DATA, Lisa developed communication plans and content for internal and external audiences and aligned brand narratives around corporate sponsorships.

Today, Lisa blends AI-powered efficiency with old-school editorial rigor to develop communications and content for StaffDNA, a technology company focused on enabling better workforce management in healthcare. She has secured placements in media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Dallas Business Journal, the AI Journal, InfoWorld and more.

As a passionate communicator, Lisa pairs creative instinct with business acumen to help brands grow with clarity, credibility, and purpose.
