#WeLeadComms: Lillian Wanja

The most important and impactful stories often go untold.

For today’s #WeLeadComms honoree, Kenya-based Lillian Eve Wanja, communication is about making those stories known to the right audiences, and bringing people together around important issues.

She is a strategic communications professional based in Nairobi with over a decade of experience helping organisations communicate complex and scientific ideas in ways that engage communities, partners, and the public. Her work is at the crossroads of storytelling, stakeholder engagement, and organisational strategy, with a focus on enhancing understanding around critical environmental and social issues.

As a Communications Officer at Save the Elephants, Lillian is part of the team that handles storytelling, media relations, and event communications for one of Africa’s leading conservation organisations. She loves turning field-based research and conservation efforts into interesting and compelling narratives that resonate with people all over the world, bringing to life the realities of wildlife protection and human-elephant coexistence.

Alongside her conservation work, Lillian has extensive experience helping organisations with their strategy, engagements, and digital storytelling. She has contributed to initiatives ranging from institutional communication strategies to international conferences, including marketing communications and event engagement for the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators. As a trained mediator herself, she has contributed to awareness efforts that promote communication and dialogue as a foundation for peaceful resolution of disputes.

Across her work, Lillian is guided by the belief that communication is not only about visibility, but about connection and ensuring that voices at the heart of critical issues are heard and valued.
