#WeLeadComms: Gillyan Fiddes

Glasgow-based communications professional Gillyan Fiddes is today’s #WeLeadComms honoree.

Gillyan is an internal communications advisor with a passion for helping organisations connect with their people in meaningful, human ways. With a background in social media, marketing and internal communications, she brings a well-rounded approach to storytelling, employee engagement, and campaign delivery, translating complex ideas into clear and accessible messaging that resonates.

Currently working at Frazer-Nash Consultancy, Gillyan supports the delivery of communications strategies and campaigns that bring people together and strengthen organisational culture. She is an Associate member of the Institute of Internal Communications, reflecting her commitment to developing her expertise and contributing to the wider profession.

Gillyan began her career at Arup, where she spent almost five years building professional experience. During this time, she collaborated with diverse teams, supported digital and campaign activity, and developed a strong foundation in creating engaging communications that drive understanding and connection across large organisations.

An English, Journalism and Creative Writing graduate from the University of Strathclyde, Gillyan brings a natural storytelling instinct to her work, underpinned by a curiosity about people and a desire to make communications more impactful.  She is particularly passionate about inclusive communications, often encouraging fellow communicators to consider accessibility and representation in the messages they create.

Beyond her professional role, Gillyan is someone who cares deeply about community and creativity. From volunteering her time to improve local spaces, to teaching highland dance classes, and to championing causes like disability inclusion, she brings the same thoughtfulness and energy to everything she does.

Looking ahead, Gillyan would love to see internal communications embedded as a strategic partner within all organisations, helping shape key decisions from the outset. She believes that when communicators are empowered to do this, they can play a vital role in building stronger cultures, more informed teams, and organisations where people truly feel connected.
