US-based emerging communication leader Erica Coppola is today’s #WeLeadComms honoree.
In her words:
“I’m a New York–based communications professional and recent graduate of the Master of Arts in Communications program at the Wake Forest School of Professional Studies. I am passionate about using strategic communication and storytelling to help organizations connect with their audiences and create meaningful impact.
“My background spans communications, marketing, advertising, and public relations across both small organizations and large corporations, including Walmart. I began my career as an intern at a small public relations firm, where I developed a strong foundation in media relations and communications strategy. I later spent three years working in advertising, contributing to marketing campaigns for Walmart.
“In late 2023, I made the decision to deepen my expertise by returning to school to pursue my master’s degree in communications. I began the program in January 2024 and graduated this past January. My studies focused on strategic communications, branding, intercultural communication, crisis communication, and public relations—skills that allow organizations to communicate effectively in today’s fast-paced, digital landscape.
“During this time, I also had the opportunity to serve as a social media intern for Dream Factory of Brooklyn, a nonprofit that grants dreams to critically and chronically ill children. Helping amplify their mission through digital storytelling was both professionally andpersonally rewarding, and it reinforced my desire to pursue mission-driven work.
“I am currently seeking opportunities where I can combine my professional experience and academic training to help organizations develop thoughtful communication strategies, solve problems, and strengthen their impact—particularly within nonprofit or purpose-driven organizations.
“Beyond my professional work, I am also a mental health advocate, blogger, and author committed to raising awareness about the importance of self-care and mental wellness. I believe communication has the power to build community, inspire change, and remind people that they are not alone.
“My goal is to continue using communication and storytelling as tools to create meaningful, lasting social impact.”
