Carla Yashiro: Three Portraits in different settings

#WeLeadComms: Carla Ivette Yashiro

The Spark: Carla believes communication is the art of tying knots, connecting people, ideas, and intent until they form something unbreakable.

The Lead: A full-blown communicator and producer, she functions as a Culture Catalyst and an Architect of Experience. She leads by bridging the gap between high-level strategy and high-energy execution. Whether she is driving global creative initiatives within the Hitachi ecosystem or producing the social-first video that sparks them, she is the mover and shaker who activates communities and builds culture through tangible, immersive storytelling.

The Give-Back: She finds her “flow” in sharing what she has learned. From guest lecturing on branding at Stanford and Berkeley to mentoring tech startups and women entrepreneurs, she believes the communications profession grows only when we pull others up with us.

The “We Lead” Moment: For her, leadership isn’t a title; it’s the ritual of creating belonging. By co-founding employee resource groups and fostering inclusive communities, she has seen firsthand how strategic communication can turn a workplace into a vibrant culture.

The Professional Backdrop

Today’s #WeLeadComms honoree, Carla is an Emmy Award-winning producer and communications strategist who thrives at the intersection of storytelling and technology. With a foundation in Radio, Television, and Film from San Jose State University, she has evolved from broadcast campaigns at Telemundo NBC Universal to architecting global communications and creative strategy across the Hitachi ecosystem, including Hitachi Vantara and Hitachi Digital.

A proactive adopter of generative AI, social media, and automation tools and a power user of the Adobe Creative Suite, she is known for scaling content while keeping the human element at the center. Beyond the screen, she lives at the intersection of three cultures (California in the U.S., Japan, and México). As a multilingual and multicultural leader—and a multi-instrumentalist and fiber artist—she brings that same spirit of craftsmanship and ‘tangible rituals’ to the inclusive cultures she builds.
