India-based communication leader Anupma Mishra is today’s #WeLeadComms honoree.
She shares her story here:
“If there is one thread that runs through my career, it is a fascination with people and the stories that shape their experiences.
“I began my journey as a journalist with The Hindustan Times and later The Telegraph. For a decade, I reported on major sporting events, interviewed business leaders and change makers, and wrote everything from front-page stories to long-form features.
“Those years taught me a lesson that continues to guide me today: effective communication is not about pushing messages; it is about understanding people. Along the way, I was fortunate to be nominated for the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism, one of India’s most respected journalism honors, for an investigative series on the state of sports in conflict-affected Jammu & Kashmir. The experience reinforced the value of curiosity, persistence and looking beyond the obvious.
“Over time, I became increasingly interested in the stories unfolding inside organizations. Not the stories found in annual reports or presentations, but the human stories behind change, leadership, culture and transformation. That curiosity eventually led me into communications.
“Today, I work as a Senior Internal Communications Business Partner supporting a Fortune 500 technology company with a workforce of 65,000 employees globally. My role spans executive communications, change and transformation programs, employee engagement, workplace branding, leadership events and corporate storytelling.
“On any given day, I may be helping shape the narrative for a global technology rollout, developing messaging for senior leaders, creating employee engagement campaigns, or translating complex business priorities into communication experiences that people can understand, connect with and act upon.
“What I enjoy most about communications is the opportunity to create clarity and connection. Some of my most rewarding work has involved helping organizations communicate change in ways that feel meaningful, relatable and human. Whether it is a leadership event, a workplace branding initiative or a transformation program, I believe communication is most effective when people see themselves in the story.
“Outside the corporate world, I explored storytelling in a different way by building a YouTube channel that grew to more than 22,000 subscribers and generated over 1.5 million views. It was a reminder that while platforms evolve, understanding your audience remains timeless.
“Today, I am particularly interested in the intersection of storytelling, employee experience and AI-enabled communications. My ambition is to continue helping organizations build stronger connections with their people while exploring how technology can enhance communication without losing its human touch.
“When I am not working, you will often find me exploring new places with my husband and our eight-year-old daughter, collecting stories and memories along the way. At heart, I remain what I have always been – a storyteller.”
