#WeLeadComms: Amandine Viaud

Today’s #WeLeadComms honors go to Canada-based French communication leader Amandine Viaud.

In her words:

“I came to Canada on my own when I was 24 years old, with a Master’s degree in Marketing from a French university. Like many immigrants, I didn’t step directly into my ideal role. Starting over was frustrating and humbling, but it ultimately led me to a rewarding career in communications.

“My experience as an immigrant shaped the way I communicate. Because English is my second language, I’ve experienced firsthand how complicated language can create barriers. I believe effective communications should be clear, accessible and inclusive. I always focus on making messages easy to understand, ensuring they resonate with a broad audience.

“Over the years, I’ve worked in internal and external communications for regulatory organizations and a public transportation agency in Toronto. I have a soft spot for external communications, where creativity, innovation and experimentation often have more room to thrive.

“Today, I work as a Senior Communications Specialist for a health regulator that encourages me to think outside the box and explore new ideas. My work includes managing social media channels, creating visual and written content, coordinating events, overseeing our website and intranet platforms, proofreading translations, leading the production of the annual report, and developing communications plans to support new initiatives.

“I spend a lot of time thinking about the future of our profession. Last year, I wrote an article on artificial intelligence tools for communicators that was published in IABC’s Catalyst magazine. Another area that interests me is the expanding role of communications professionals. We are often expected to wear many hats, navigating issues that intersect with IT support, employee engagement, event management, video editing, graphic design and more. It’s a subject I’d love to write about next, as it reflects some of the most important challenges facing our profession today.

“Beyond communications, I’m passionate about workplace well-being. After experiencing the early signs of burnout in my own career, I became committed to improving processes, reducing unnecessary work and helping teams work smarter.

“Looking ahead, my goal is to move into management, where I can take on a deeper strategic role and help create an environment where people can do meaningful work while maintaining balance in their lives.”
