#WeLeadComms: Alex Charles

Connecticut-based communication leader Alex Charles is today’s #WeLeadComms honoree.

He shares his story here:

“I didn’t always know how to explain why I experienced the workplace differently. Now, looking back on my work in corporate, executive, internal, and change communications, I can see how being neurodivergent influenced the skills that set me apart. Pattern recognition, emotional awareness, taking in information quickly, and turning complex ideas into clear, human-focused communication all grew out of that perspective.

“Throughout my career, I have helped organizations manage transformation, support employee engagement, update communication systems, and turn business priorities into clear messages people use. My work has covered executive communications, change initiatives, internal storytelling, employee experience, and planning through times of growth and change.

“Recently, I took a standard sales value playbook that was just a static Word document and rebuilt it as a modular, visual tool. I brought together executive messaging, story structure, usability, and design thinking to make something more practical for teams in the field. It shifted from a document people referenced to a tool they actually wanted to use, which made communication clearer and more consistent.

“Over time, I realized that instincts I once saw as just part of my personality became real strengths in my work. I can pick up on gaps in communication or tension before they become problems, which has helped me guide teams through uncertainty and change.

“I am drawn to organizations at turning points, whether they are scaling up, shifting their culture, launching new systems, or rethinking internal communication.

“No matter the project—messaging for leaders, building frameworks, or leading employee communications, I am focused on helping people feel informed, included, and respected.

“Looking ahead, I am interested in opportunities where communication brings clarity, strengthens culture, supports transformation, and helps organizations connect with the people who make their success possible.”
